Musical patterns
| There have been a few notable efforts to minimize the predominance of patterns in musical composition. However, this only underscores the fact that most familiar music is composed of melodic and rhythmic patterns. These patterns exist over a wide range of time scales. Very often, small patterns occurring over the length of a few basic units are built into successively larger patterns. |
